Features to Look for in a 4 Burner Gas Grill

Heat Distribution

Heat distribution is one of the most important things to consider when grilling tasty, evenly cooked food. Look for a grill that has a decent quality heating system as well as durable grates that give you consistent and even heat throughout the cooking area.

When heat is not distributed equally, some of your food will burn and some will be undercooked. This is not something you want to happen at your next backyard get together, trust me. I once had the unfortunate experience of having my smug brother-in-law come up to me with his kid’s undercooked burger. And he never lets me forget.

Durability

Since a grill is usually kept outside all year long, you want to get one that is made of a durable material that can withstand harsh weather. Stay away from a gas grill that will wear down easily or rust. This doesn’t just mean the exterior, I’m also talking about the cooking grates because if they wear down, the heat distribution of the grill will be affected.

Look for a four-burner gas grill that has a stainless-steel exterior. If you make sure to clean and maintain them properly, they will have the ability to withstand rust, wear and tear, and bad weather. Cast-iron grill grates will also give you the best cooking experience as well as an easy cleaning experience in comparison to stainless steel.

Grilling area

When deciding on a cooking area, consider how much food you prepare at one time. If you are cooking for just a few people, then you don’t need a large grilling area. If you regularly feed a large group of people, consider grills with multiple cooking areas, including side burners.

If you have a large hungry crowd, having the ability to grill 12 burgers all at once is ideal. Otherwise, you’ll be next to the grill for the entire evening with a line of people grumbling while they wait. When I only grill for my family, we only require a cooking area that can accommodate between three and eight burgers, so you can choose accordingly for your needs.

Design

The design of a four-burner grill is really where most grills start to vary. These days, there are so many features that can be built-in to these grills that can help you control pretty much every aspect of the grilling process. You just need to choose a grill design that is best designed for your needs.

Keep in mind that if your four-burner gas grill has more settings and digital controls that it will give you more consistent and evenly cooked food. Plus, it will be more expensive. You also want to make sure that any four-burner gas grill that you choose comes with an electric push-button, which will make starting up the grill a lot faster.

While it is easy to get lost in all these features, and I definitely do, keep in mind that basic gas grills will also give you some incredible food. So, if you don’t think you will use all the extra features, opt for the more basic four-burner gas grill that is more affordable.

Portability

When choosing a four-burner gas grill, always think about how and where you will be using it. If your gas grill will only be sitting in your backyard for the next few years, you can get a heavier and larger model. But, if you’re like me and take it camping with you, then you want something on wheels that moves it easily.

You also want to look for a mid-sized grill that will fit into the back of a truck. If you don’t have a truck and need to put it in the back of a car, then look for a smaller model, or even a tabletop model, that doesn’t take up as much room.

Best 4-Burner Gas Grill: The Verdict

The winner of the best 4 burner gas grill is the Weber Summit S-470. So, I’m a sucker for features, and the Weber Summit S-470 is loaded. Not only does it come with an enclosed cart and a shroud to improve the cooking experience, but it also comes with an infrared rotisserie burner. And a side burner. And a sear station burner.

The main grill alone gives you a total of 48,800 BTUs over a 580 sq. inch cooking area. And then the flush-mounted side burner gives you another 12,000 BTUs. And, on top of that, the infrared rotisserie burner gives you another 10,600 BTUs. So. Many. Possibilities.

And then there are the Flavorizer Bars. Protecting the rust-resistant burner tubes, the Flavorizer bars are placed at an angle, so they add flavor to your food while they catch drippings. And, that shroud feature, when combined with the efficient and durable cookbox, provides the best heat circulation that you can use to cook food whether you using either indirect or direct heat.

The Summit S-470 lets you control each burner, so you can use either the indirect or direct grill method. And, you get two work areas, six tool hooks, and two heavy-duty casters that include a front-locking safety feature for easy portability. There are so many cool features on the Weber Summit S-470 that makes it the definite winner of the best four-burner gas grill hands down. Click here to check its price on Amazon.
