How to Air Fry Steak

Looking for a way to cook perfect steaks without messy clean-ups, scary oil splatters, and smoky kitchens?

Well, let me introduce you to my perfectly juicy air fryer recipe that’s topped with a garlicky and herb-infused butter mixture.

Heads up: this dish turns out to be consistently delicious every single time!

❤️ Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Before we jump to the actual recipe, let me share why you’re bound to love this recipe as much as I do.

  • Cooks Quickly: There aren’t many meat dishes that cook in just 15 minutes, but this steak recipe does! For obvious reasons, this convenience is always a welcomed bonus.
  • Easiest Way to Cook Steak: Air frying steak means you’ll deal with less mess and won’t need to use fancy cooking techniques such as sous vide or basting just to enjoy good steak.
  • Consistent Quality: As long as every steak cut you purchase has a consistent thickness, you can expect the same doneness, flavors, and quality of steak from air frying each time.

🍴Tips to Cook the Best Air Fryer Steak

Here are some tips to keep in mind if you want to cook amazing steaks in the air fryer!

Use Thick Steaks: For this recipe, your steaks should be at least an inch thick for them to be tasty and juicy. Thinner steaks may dry out and become too tough as you cook.

Pat Steaks Dry Before Seasoning: Many recipes seem to skip mentioning that you should apply dry rubs on dry steak. If your steaks are still wet when you season them, you’ll risk cooking steak that’s too bland.

Don’t Overcrowd the Basket: If your air fryer is too full, there’s a good chance that it won’t cook meat properly. So, if needed, cook your steaks in different batches.

I personally love cooking my steak medium-rare, so if you follow the recipe below, there’s a pretty high chance that you’ll get a medium-rare steak, too.

Prefer a different doneness level?

No problem!

Just grab a food thermometer and check the steak’s internal temperature as you cook. The guidelines below will help you know when to stop air frying to achieve your desired level of doneness.

  • Rare Steaks: Rare steaks have an internal temperature of 125°F to 130°F.
  • Medium-Rare Steaks: If the meat reaches an internal temperature ranging from 130°F to 140°F, that steak is medium-rare, just like the way I like it!
  • Medium Steaks: For a medium steak, aim for an internal temperature of about 140°F to 150°F.
  • Medium Well Steaks: If your thermometer reads anything between 150°F and 155°F, you have a medium-well steak in front of you.
  • Well Done Steaks: Steaks that are hotter than 160°F are considered well-done steaks.

🍽️ What to Serve With Air Fryer Steak

Steaks shine best when paired with the right side dishes, don’t they?

So, if you’re making this recipe, you might as well whip up some sides to make your meal well-rounded!

Some of the classic pairs of air-fried steak include:

  • Mashed or crispy potatoes
  • Salad
  • Grilled vegetables (such as asparagus)
  • Sautéed mushrooms and veggies
  • Mexican corn salad

As an Asian, I’m a firm believer that any type of meat, including steak, pairs perfectly with rice as well!

Juicy and Flavorful Air Fryer Steak Recipe

Juicy and Flavorful Air Fryer Steak Recipe

Yield: 2
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes

With this recipe, you’ll enjoy perfectly cooked steaks topped with a buttery, flavorful sauce in only 15 minutes! Achieve steakhouse-quality results every single time.

Ingredients

For the Steak:

  • 2 bone-in ribeye steaks (at least 1 inch thick)
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning

For the Compound Butter:

  • 4 tablespoons of salted butter (softened)
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon of parsley (finely chopped)
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • ½ teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, prepare the compound butter by combining the softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, salt, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well until the butter mixture looks uniform.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Pat each steak dry with paper towels.
  4. Lather the steak cuts with about 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Then, season all sides using salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Make sure to season the sides of the steak as well.
  5. Place the ribeye steaks in the air fryer basket. If your air fryer doesn’t have enough space for both steaks, you may need to cook them one at a time.
  6. Cook the steaks for 10 to 12 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Flip the meat at the 6-minute mark.
  7. Remove the steaks from the air fryer.
  8. Allow the steaks to rest for about 5 to 10 minutes. This step allows the juices in the steak to settle, making each cut more tender and flavorful.
  9. During the resting stage, place about 1 to 2 tablespoons of the compound butter on top of each steak. The heat from the steak will melt the butter, creating a sauce for the steak.
